Making movies!

So I wanted to share a bit of my experience on set as a makeup artist. I usually don't do a lot of films, I prefer music videos and photoshoots (just one or two days and you're always busy), but I do enjoy being on set and learning how things are done for the big screen!

I'm currently working on a feature film called Lost in Darkness and it includes lots of blood and dead bodies, which I love doing! I'm in charge of the FX makeup only but I do assist the Key MUA with whatever she may need! So I can be blood tubing one minute and the next one making a girl look pretty, it's exciting :)

The biggest challenge is to make everything believable, and when you're recording super HD with a RED camera things get a bit complicated! Specially when it comes to effects and prosthetics.

He died in a car accident!
I did his head wound and blood tubing for the blood coming out of his head.
This is what you use for the tubing, the blood is thinned with water and Dawn soap so that it has a nice texture, and darkened with Chocolate syrup! It smelled like chocolate soap :)
Same kid, now at the morgue

A close up of the wound

Lividity on his back :) He had a huge tattoo but it was covered nicely!
Key MUA Cat adding some scabs, I'll try to see if someone took pics of me working!

There was a Police Dept and a hospital inside the studio!

The makeup room, I love working on studios because I usually have a designated space for makeup and not just do it in the middle of the street or in a Bathroom with bad lighting, ugh! I do always carry my director's chair with me because otherwise my back will kill me.
I loved the airplane set in the studio, it was so cool!

I'll post more about it later! There's a lot of blood coming up! We will shoot in a cabin next week I can't wait :) Slit throats, decomposing bodies and body parts coming :)
